Chase A Dream (NZ) (Captaintreacherous) left his rivals with few excuses when he dominated the $100,000 Group One Canprint Flying Stakes (1980m) at Addington on Friday night.
The NZB Standardbred graduate hadn’t been seen at the races since his previous Group One win in the Three-Year-Old Sires Stakes Series Final (1980m) at the same track in May.
But the brilliant pacer overcame his lack of recent racing in between in devastating style when easily holding out a deep Flying Stakes field.
And it didn’t come the easy way, with Chase A Dream caught wide for the first half of the Group One feature.
“There were a few of them looking to hunt early and I didn’t want to burn early,” driver Blair Orange said.“I just let them sort themselves out and let him creep forward quietly.”“I knew he had the horsepower and I knew we weren’t going to get parked out by anyone.”“He is just a lovely racehorse.”
Chase A Dream’s big performance to win was matched by trainers Mark and Nathan Purdon having the classy pacer ready for such a strong first-up performance.
The win allowed Orange to combine with the Purdons for yet another Group One victory.
“It is an exceptional training effort from Mark and Nathan to have him here tonight and win like that, with a little bit more in hand,” Orange said.
“It just shows what a talent those two are.”
Chase A Dream was offered by Studholme Bloodstock at the 2022 National Yearling Sale at Christchurch.
Friday night’s win put a third Group One title on the pacer’s resume following his wins in both Sires Stakes Finals for two and three-year-olds.
